How much is the rent subsidy?
Between 10 and 520 euros a month. The amount depends on the household's composition and income.
Who can apply for the rent subsidy?
The main conditions:
- be an adult with a right of residence of more than 3 months in Luxembourg and be registered in the national register;
- rent on the private market in Luxembourg, not from your parents or children or from a public body (Fonds du Logement, SNHBM, a commune...);
- live in the home as your main and permanent residence;
- no household member may own more than a third of a home, in Luxembourg or abroad;
- have a regular income when you apply, below the ceiling set by the law of 7 August 2023.
How much of your income must the rent represent?
The monthly rent excluding charges must be more than 25% of the household's monthly net income. If the rent is 25% or less, the aid is refused.
The income taken into account is the net income of the calendar year before the month from which the aid is granted.
How do I apply?
Fill in the rent subsidy application (demande en obtention d'une subvention de loyer), online or as a PDF, and send it with the supporting documents to the Guichet unique des aides au logement (11, rue de Hollerich, L-1741 Luxembourg, tel. 80 02 10 10).
The documents required:
- a copy of your identity document;
- the household composition form and a sworn statement;
- the lease;
- proof of income for every household member;
- proof of rent payments;
- your bank details.
From when is the subsidy paid?
If the application is accepted, the aid is paid from the date of the application, provided every condition was met on that date. So it is best not to wait before applying.
Is the subsidy reviewed every year?
Yes. The file is reviewed automatically every 12 months. If the conditions are still met, the amount is recalculated. If you move, even within the same building, the subsidy stops and a new application is needed.
Can it be combined with the rental deposit aid?
Yes. The rent subsidy can be combined with the state aid for funding a rental deposit.
